Sport
This course is assessed through students theoretical and leadership ability, rather than practical ability, therefore you need to have a keen interest and be committed to learning about sport. It is an ideal qualification for someone wishing to pursue a career in the world of sport.
What the course involves
The BTEC Tech Award gives learners the opportunity to develop sport-specific knowledge and skills through realistic vocational contexts. During this course , students will develop their knowledge and understanding by:
- Exploring the different types of providers of sport and physical activity, as well as equipment and technology available.
- Looking at different individual needs to examine ways to remove barriers for exercise, in order to increase participation.
- Developing their knowledge in Anatomy and Physiology of the body.
- Using their knowledge to plan and deliver sports activity sessions.
- Exploring the components of fitness, fitness tests and methods of training to improve performance.
Assessment
- Component 1: ‘Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity’ is written coursework making up 30% of the total grade. This will be assessed in the Spring Term of Year 10.
- Component 2: ‘Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance’ is written coursework making up 30% of the total grade. This will be assessed in the Autumn Term of Year 11.
- Component 3: ‘Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity’ is an external examination making up 40% of the total grade. This will be assessed in the Spring Term of Year 11.
