Welcome to Computer Science
Welcome to Computing – The home of Computer Science, Information Technology & Creative iMedia
“Our intent is to develop computational thinking, ICT, and digital literacy in all learners, empowering them to become confident, creative, and responsible users of technology in an increasingly digital world.”
Our Vision
The Computing curriculum at The Herewoode Academy aims to provide a balanced, inclusive, and forward-thinking programme of study across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. We strive to inspire curiosity about how digital systems work, how they are created, and how they impact society.
Through a broad and engaging curriculum, students will:
Develop computational thinking skills to approach problems logically and creatively.
Build confidence in digital literacy, ensuring they can use technology safely, effectively, and responsibly.
Gain hands-on experience with information technology to support learning, communication, and productivity.
Learn the principles of computer science, including programming, data representation, and systems architecture.
Understand the wider impact of technology—social, ethical, and environmental—and how digital innovation shapes the modern world.
At Key Stage 3, learners are introduced to foundational computing concepts and digital skills that encourage curiosity, problem-solving, and resilience. They learn to become active creators of technology, not just passive consumers.
At Key Stage 4, students build upon this foundation to make informed choices about their learning pathways - whether pursuing GCSE Computer Science, vocational IT or Creative iMedia, or applying digital skills across other subjects. The curriculum promotes transferable skills such as critical thinking, logical reasoning, research, and analysis - enabling learners to adapt to future technologies and careers.
Ultimately, our vision is to equip every student with the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to thrive in the digital economy and to use technology ethically and purposefully in their personal and professional lives.
