Year 11 Learning

Year 11 consists of completing Component 2 coursework, which is based around students own business ideas to a brief set by the examination board, followed by their finance and promotion examination.

Autumn Term – Human resources

Focus: Students should understand the interdependent nature of business operations, human resources, marketing and finance. Students should be able to give examples of how business objectives would be split into functional plans with clear links throughout.

  • Motivating employees
  • Training

Spring Term – Marketing

Focus: Students should understand the interdependent nature of business operations, human resources, marketing and finance. Students should be able to give examples of how business objectives would be split into functional plans with clear links throughout.

Topics:

  • Identifying and understanding customers
  • Segmentation
  • The purpose and methods of market research
  • Elements of the marketing mix (4Ps)

Summer Term – Finance

Focus: Students should understand the interdependent nature of business operations, human resources, marketing and finance. Students should be able to give examples of how business objectives would be split into functional plans with clear links throughout.

  • Sources of finance
  • Cash flow
  • Financial terms and calculations
  • Analysing the financial performance of a business

Autumn Term - Planning and Pitching a Micro-Enterprise (NEA Prep)

Focus: Coursework research and planning (Component 2)

Topics:

  • Selecting a realistic business idea
  • Conducting market research for your idea
  • Setting aims and objectives for the enterprise
  • Producing a business proposal
  • Planning resources and finances

Sprint Term 1 – Marketing and Operations

Focus: Business operations and marketing strategies

Topics:

  • Marketing mix: Product, Price, Place, Promotion
  • Importance of branding and digital marketing
  • Operations management and production methods
  • Quality assurance and customer service

Spring Term 2 – Financial Understanding 2

Focus: Advanced financial decision-making

Topics:

  • Financial documents (invoices, statements, etc.)
  • Statement of comprehensive income
  • Statement of financial position (balance sheet)
  • Using financial data to assess performance

Summer Term 1 – Revision and Exam Skills

Focus: Consolidation and preparation for final exams

Activities:

  • Review of all key topics (Paper 1 & 2)
  • Exam technique and timing practice
  • Past paper practice and feedback
