In Year 11 students study the BTEC TECH Award in Music Practice.
There are 3 components in this vocational course. Component 3 is an externally set commercial brief which learners will arrange a piece of music into a new style demonstrating the skills and knowledge learned in component 1 and component 2.
| Term | Topic | Key Content |
| Autumn | Component 2: Responding to a Commercial Music Brief | - This component will allow learners to work to their strengths and interests and apply the skills that they have learned throughout the course in a practical way.
- Component 2 is an independent project where students choose skills to develop. They work in two disciplines – composition and a choice of performance or production.
- Learners will produce a rough sketch of a piece, do a number of activities to work on 3 different skills, then produce a final version demonstrating how their skills have improved. Their development activities are documented in a logbook.

| Spring/Summer | Component 3: Responding to a Commercial Music Brief | - Learners will develop and present an original creation based on a piece from a given list and a style from a choice of four.
- Learners will then present this as a solo or group performance, an audio recording creation or a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) project.
